#40 SERVE IN THE TEMPLE
Physical Facilities Coordinator for the Layton Temple Ground Breaking - May 2020
What a privilege it was to be asked to serve on this Layton Temple Ground Breaking Committee!
We
opened our email and received some unexpected communication from The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints. It was an invitation to serve on the
Layton Temple Groundbreaking Committee. We were grateful to read that we
were able to serve with Craig’s sister Lynette and Tom Checketts (the stake
president in the area). We were elated and excited to learn more about
our responsibility. Then we learned that we were over all the Physical
Facilities, which was shocking and a bit overwhelming. Immediately we
knelt in prayer and felt that we wanted to have a committee that represented the different areas of our temple district. We called Stake Presidents from the different cities and asked them for the name of a couple with the skill and expertise needed to be able to
serve on our committee. We decided to reach out to at least one Stake
President in each of the cities and have representation from Syracuse,
Clearfield, Layton, & Kaysville. We were impressed by the time and
effort the Stake Presidents put into finding and offering a name. They
all counseled with their stake presidency and made it a matter of prayer.
We felt that the Lord was involved with each of these individuals and all of us
coming together on this committee together. There was a feeling of unity
and honor from our very first meeting together. When all of the changes
happened because of the restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic, our committee still had their responsibilities to follow through
with. Though the event was smaller, it still had all the pieces our committee
was responsible for. Everyone gave their very best and we cherished our
time serving with them. We experienced a little bit of heaven through
this experience. Not only did the temple grounds feel sacred, but the
people we served with brought a pure light with them as well. Through the
changes, weather, and all the challenges - we experienced joy.
